German Development Service (DED)

ded_logo.jpg DED deploys professionals who will then work with a local partner organization for the whole duration of the contract. These DED specialists have several years of professional experience both in Germany and abroad.  

DED is a Personnel Service and was founded in 1963 by the Federal Republic of Germany. DED is present in 45 countries with almost 1,000 professionals. DED started in the Philippines in 1991; more than 30 professionals are currently assigned in the Philippines.   

In the Waste Management area DED empowers Local Government Units with more than 100,000 inhabitants and provinces to manage solid waste in an economical and environmentally friendly way in compliance with the Republic Act 9003.  

Geographically DED is focused on the Visayas and Mindanao 

Currently four DED engineers support

  • San Carlos City, Negros Occidental
  • Southern Negros Development Council (Sipalay), Negros Occidental
  • Ormoc City, Leyte
  • Bayawan City, Negros Oriental
 

Tangible outcomes as of December 2007

  • In 2007 only 21 LGUs of more than 1500 had sanitary Landfills. Bais was the first facility to be established in the Visayas.
  • The second sanitary landfill in the Visayas was opened in San Carlos on September 14, 2007.
  • Sipalay City has identified a suitable site for a landfill
