The Way Forward for Ecological Solid Waste Management in a Climate-Challenged World
University of Cebu-Maritime Education Training Center, Cebu City
November 21 -24, 2011
It is the 10+ 1 Anniversary of the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act . As we look forward to the next ten years, we need to respond to the continuing and new challenges of solid waste management.
RA 9003’s call on the practice of 3Rs will continue to be relevant in the next ten years especially in a climate-challenged world. Methane emissions from disposal facilities and carbon dioxide emissions from open burning especially of agricultural wastes need to be addressed. Waste avoidance and recycling will continue to be key approaches to climate change mitigation and sustainable financing mechanisms need to be established.
SWAPPCon 2011’s theme: “The Way forward for ESWM in a Climate-Challenged World” shall be a venue to be informed about the pressing issues and approaches to current and future SWM challenges. The conference will present and tackle the national updates on solid waste management compliance and proposed guidelines, scientific papers presentations, panel discussions on pressing issue of plastics, and presentation of new SWM technologies.
